The Secondary 3 students in Yago School have been learning how to improve their physical capacities by practicing specific exercises during their Physical Education lessons. This week we have centered our attention on improving strength through enjoyable and funny games and exercises. Strength training can be done in a variety of ways, for example, using weights. However, it is much safer and appropriate for teenagers to use their own body weight to provide the resistance.
Strength training has numerous physical benefits. These include improvements to: bone density and strength, body composition, cardiovascular fitness, blood lipid profiles. Strength training has also been proven to improve sporting performance and reduce injuries. In addition to the physical benefits of exercise, the Yago PE department are also keen to utilize the mental health benefits that exercise provides.
The classes that S3 have been involved in provide the skills and tools that will allow them to become lifelong learners. It is our aim that students are involved in regular physical activity for the rest of their lives.
