On Wednesday, March 8th, the children from Infant 3, Infant 4 and Infant 5, accompanied by all their teachers, made an excursion to the CUNA Farm School, in the municipality of Espartinas.
LA CUNA is a pioneering farm, set up with the intention of educating through fun activities and contact with the natural environment. They have professional teachers and expert monitors who integrate school curriculum projects into the content of the day, focusing on the countryside and the garden, animals and barns and stables, food and harvesting, and recycling.
The weather was with us and we were enjoyed a magnificent spring day.
We arrived at the farm at ten in the morning and all the teaching team was waiting for us to enjoy a puppet show. The protagonists were a rabbit and a hedgehog who told us what activities we would do during the day. It was fun and we laughed a lot.
We divided the classes into small work groups and got to work. All the groups rotated through the different workshops:
We held a food handling workshop, where we made fruit skewers. Some people, as well as making skewers, ate them at the same time…
We worked with the farm animals. We got to know the donkeys, calves, piglets, ducks, sheep, hens and rabbits really well. We explained what they look like and we categorised them according to their characteristics, and also reinforced the types of foods that each produces…
We were able to work in and enjoy a magnificent orchard. We walked around looking, smelling, feeling and testing each fruit and vegetable, as well as learning the characteristics of each one of them. Each small work group made a mural that we have in our classes with the fruits that we found out about
When we finished the different workshops, we were hungry! We sat in circles in our classes to enjoy the packed lunch that our cooks had prepared for us that day with all their love. We enjoyed it so much!
When we finished eating came the time to tidy up and, to reinforce our children’s environmental education, we sorted all the leftovers in a recycling workshop. Finally we distributed the organic leftovers between the farm animals.
What fun and how much we learned!
