On October 19th, Yago School of Sevilla hosted a ceremonial raising of the Spanish flag on the mast of the oceanic patrol boat CHILREU, given by the Spanish Navy to the school. This special flag was donated by the Commander of the School Ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, in a ceremony aboard the aforementioned vessel.
The Exmo Mr. Admiral of the Fleet was received by a Picket of Honors of Marine Infantry, which paid him the honors of ordinance corresponding with his title. We also had the privilege of hosting other senior officers of the Armed Forces.
Two students from the Colegio Pedro Gaytan de Ayala and María Sánchez, carried the flag to the sound of “Ganando barlovento,” to the foot of the mast where Captain Juan Carlos Gómez Vidal awaited them.
The hoist was made while the Guillena music band played the National Anthem.
The ceremony continued in the majestic Sports Pavillion with the eloquent and moving speech from the director and the Admiral of the Fleet. It was undoubtedly an exciting event that served to strengthen students’, teachers’, parents’ and guests’ commitment to the Flag of Spain and the intrinsic value in our national symbols.
As you know, with total independence and respect for different political religious or social beliefs, at Yago School we want to give firm and decisive support to our Flag and to the military that carries it inside and outside of our borders.
The event ended with the standing audience singing the Yago hymn and with a deafening, “Viva Spain!”
