Last September, the first Instructional Cruise for high school students from Yago School. The ship made the voyage between Seville and Valencia for 5 days and 4 nights. The activity took place on the Cervantes Saavedra Schooner, one of the few training ships accredited as an educational center by the Camilo José Cela University. La Goleta is a learning space, a classroom at sea where courses on sustainability, conservation, navigation, leadership, team/collaboration skills, as well as astronomy. Thanks to these training sessions on board the ship, the students were able to develop the learning objectives related to their CAS program.
The educational program that was carried out during the voyage was specifically designed between the Yago School and the Camilo José Cela University. Said program was made up of Bridge activities (navigation, situation on the chart, etc.), Engine room (engine watch, taking temperatures, etc.), Sailing (sail maneuvering, trim, etc.) and Upkeep (cleaning up tables ,cleaning, cooking, etc.). In order to carry out these activities optimally, the students were grouped into four groups, thus promoting teamwork. In addition, these activities were complemented with specific workshops that took place during the voyage on the Goleta. These workshops consisted of exercise sessions (every day), knot workshops, astronomy, nautical nomenclature, sailing theory, mast climbing, etc.
This cruise was a unique experience for our students, as they were able to enjoy a unique and privileged setting. Likewise, they have been able to learn to function and coexist in a new and motivating environment with the exquisite company of the sea breeze.
Until the next shipment, sailors!
