Christmas food collection campaign

Campaña de Alimentos The Yago Foundation

At Yago School we do not forget the most vulnerable people at Christmas time. We continue to be committed to social problems, to the situation of poverty in which many families find themselves, contributing in this way to ensure that at this time of year no family is left without access to food. This situation has been aggravated by the delicate situation we are experiencing due to the pandemic.

For this reason, one of the most important social values that we instil and transmit to our students is solidarity. We work on solidarity as a need or feeling that arises within the pupil to want to help or get involved with others without receiving anything in return.

The educational project of Yago School aims to complete the education in values of the pupils and to teach the value of solidarity through these humanitarian actions. Inculcating these values, making them part of the learning process, and making them aware of them, is essential in order to determine solidarity behaviour in the future.

As every year and integrated in our school culture, The Yago Foundation has organised this food collection campaign led by six IB Diploma students to provide support through Father James to some 200 families in the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Oliva neighbourhood.

Luján, Myriam, Nora, Julia, Ángela and Jesús, IB Diploma Programme students have led this campaign as part of a CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) project and in collaboration with The Yago Foundation.

Not only are these families helped with basic food products, but they have also enabled them to cover basic needs such as school supplies, the electricity bill or the purchase and distribution of glasses.

The CAS (Creativity Action Service) project is a central component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program which encourages students to develop their personal and interpersonal growth by learning through experience and providing opportunities for self-determination and collaboration with others. It also encourages students to show initiative and perseverance and to develop skills in collaboration, problem solving and decision making.

We thank you all for your support and congratulate you on all the money raised. And we congratulate the great work done by our International Baccalaureate students.

Let’s keep building a better world together!
